VIDEO: Three Pedals Preps LS3 Engine for 1989 Pontiac Safari Wagon Ahead of LS Fest West

Last month, the guys at Three Pedals entered their 1989 Pontiac Safari wagon into the Grand Champion competition at LS Fest West 2017. To get ready, they are making over the engine, starting with this block paint job.

We had a chance to check out the awesome Pontiac wagon at LS Fest 2016 in Bowling Green, KY. This wagon is known as ‘Shaken & Stirred’, and while the engine is getting rebuilt for LS Fest West, it was a beast when we saw it last September. The all-aluminum LS3 engine is putting out 550 horsepower, backed by a T56 6-speed transmission. It rides on a full coilover suspension, and Corvette disc brakes.

A cool thing to note about the car is the unique shaker hood scoop, this is a mixture of factory, aftermarket, and custom parts — they added it as a good to the 1970s Pontiac Trans Ams that had the iconic shaker hood scoop.

This vehicle was the prototype Three Pedals used when developing their transmission conversion kit for 1977-1990 GM B-Bodies. The kit has their proprietary integrated clutch and brake pedal assembly, and a proprietary transmission crossmember. They’ve alter made the 6-speed swap pedal kits for ’91-96 B-body line and we hear murmurs about something regarding G-bodies.

The engine that powers the wagon, is a 6.2L LS3 they pulled from a 2010 Camaro SS. It’s been upgraded by hardware from some of the best in the industry, including Mast Motorsports, and provides more than adequate power to move the heavy beast forward in swift fashion. Look forward to a full feature on this rad woodgrain wagon in the coming weeks!
