SEMA 2014: Chevrolet Performance Releases Three New Crate Engines

Chevrolet Performance unveiled a trio of crate engines at this year’s SEMA Show, and they range from the drag-intended DR525, to the sport compact enthusiast’s wet dream, the LTG 2.0-liter turbocharged four. If you’re an engine swap aficionado looking to give your classic the latest and great engine, then the LT1 was just for you! Get the specs on all three below, and let your imagination run wild!

LT1 (GEN-V)

No, not the one from the ’90s, but the same version you would find under the hood of a 2014+ Corvette Stingray. Made from an all-aluminum design (like its LS forebears), it also includes VVT, direct-injection and 460 hp! Will this be the new swap-craze engine? Only time will tell, but Jimmie Johnson already has one in his ’71 Stingray!

DR525

Essentially a LS376/525, the DR525 is the exact same engine – just with sealed bolts. This one is intended for the NMCA LSX Showdown Challenge Series. Packing 525 hp, the DR525 is equipped with tamper-proof bolts on the oil pan, front cover, and the intake manifold. This is done to ensure class compliance, which tells the tech inspectors that the engine hasn’t been mechanically fiddled with – which is a big deal if you’re chasing points in the series.

DR525It’s available with two oil pans; the Chevrolet Performance Muscle Car Oil Pan Kit (P/N 19329009) or the Gen-4 F-body oil pan (P/N 19329008). Happy hunting!

LTG

This one is quite unusual in its own right; it’s the same 2.0L turbocharged, direct-injected engine found in the Cadillac ATS, and Chevrolet Performance offers it to you in either a crate engine, or in a longitudinal 6-speed manual transmission arrangement – or for RWD applications, in Laymen’s terms. 2013 Ecotec 2.0L I-4 VVT DI Turbo (LTG) for Cadillac ATS

Rather interestingly, they market this as a potential replacement for the tired old V8 in your street rod or ’80s/’90s performance car. Could this be the engine that was powering the pair of third-gen test mules from a few weeks back? Who knows? But we’re itching to get our hands on one!
